Unit 3 Progress...

So, the unit 3 week 6 centers are not coming along as fast as I'd hoped... I'm also working on a writing pack for all of the major holidays. I am having a hard time finding enough time to finish either of them. Namely because I have two toddlers and I'm trying to get ready for our east coast visit with old friends for the New Year holiday. I will post it as soon as it is ready to go. However, the first five weeks are finished and available for download. What are you waiting for? Check it out! CLICK HERE

Goofy looking logo...

So, a few nights ago I was very excited that I finally had a logo. I will have to say I like it. Simple...cute. Well my husband just happens to be a very good artist, and I'm not just saying that because I am biased. He hated my lilly pad... well hate is a strong word, I won't use hate. He DISLIKED it and laughed at me, because he couldn't tell that it was a lilly pad. Now here's the thing... I do not have any fancy programs or money to buy clipart... so I freehand drew it on my laptop mouse pad on PowerPoint and saved it. I think for what I had, it isn't too bad. Whelp, that is the story behind my goofy looking lilly pad logo! I enjoy it, isn't that what is important? Have a great night!

Having trouble teaching contractions?

Contractions can be very difficult for students to understand and learn to read and apply in writing. This is a great game to help them begin reading and applying them outside of a teacher directed lecture. This is a 2+ player game, and could be conducted as a small group intervention. The kids really enjoy playing this game and it is written in kid friendly language so that they can read the directions on their own and learn to play. I would suggest allowing them to play this game frequently (or a game like it) so that the kids get as much practice with contractions as possible. It is a hard concept for them to understand at such a young age and requires a lot of review and practice. If you don't want to buy this game, you could visit my store and download the FREE contraction matching game. CLICK HERE

Making Ten to Add

This can be a difficult strategy for kids and it requires a lot of practice. This center has the child apply the strategy in a unique and fun way. They have pictures to guide them, but they also have to find and match the "making 10" card in order to practice the most difficult part of the strategy. This center has a sister center that is titled "Making Ten to Add 6, 7, 8, and 9" and in this center the students do not have counters in order to guide them to make the ten fact. They must apply what they have learned about the strategy in order to make the correct match.

Busy, busy, bumble bee!

This Christmas was so busy this year. Last year, I had my son right before Christmas, the 20th to be exact, and he had a few health problems. So, we spent Christmas in the hospital last year. This year was very different. Both of my babies are healthy and strong and we have kept very busy this Christmas, with family and friends. Not to mention Mommy being glued to work. Blogging and center developing are time consuming and a lot of work. However, I enjoy doing it for the benefit of my class, and yours. My class has enjoyed all of the centers that I have developed and it is supporting our action plan. I am hoping that the development of these centers will improve my students growth in a positive way. I hope they will do the same for you. If you have any unit, lesson, topic, or skill that you need specific centers for please do not hesitate to ask. I would be happy to oblige. I hope all had a wonderful Christmas, and that you will have an even better New Years. -Barbie

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome! Thank you for visiting my blog! I am pretty new to this blogging stuff and I've recently started developing centers, games, and bundles for teacherspayteachers.com. I love teaching and I am a firm believer that kids need noise in order to learn. I love doing centers and playing whole group games to break up a day. I'm in the process of developing games, centers, and units for both the Pearson enVision Math and Reading Street Series. These units will be available at my TPT store. As of right now I am in the 3rd unit of Reading Street and Topic 7 of enVision Math, because I work at an all year round school. Please feel free to contact me here or at the store for specific requests... I have no problem developing specific units of centers for a particular lesson. Thanks again for visiting!
